Hardwick portrays writing as being a part of her that was even there when she was younger. Now a days, see looks back on those writings when she's lost and may even use them for inspiration and ideas. Without writing, Hardwick wouldn't have been able to accomplish her skills, techniques and lessons learned if she hadn't been writing when she was younger. Writing helped carry her through life. Reading the beginning of Hardwick's work, I could definitely relate to how writing helps to make sense of the world. I think that from this reading I was able to understanding and get the gist of her purpose. She definitely used a sort of memoir tone, since she reflected back on her past to show the importance of writing. Other than that, I do believe her view on writing has saved her life because it is a part of her.
